OUR STORY

From Detroit's Motown era to a movement of purpose.

JA-WA Productions was created in Chicago, Illinois by Beatrice Watson in 1995, and recently formed as an LLC with her daughter, Mia Miller — while keeping the same goals and objectives it began with.

Ms. Watson’s formative years were in Detroit during the Motown era, one of nine siblings raised on a factory laborer father’s earnings and a homemaker mother, Azella — where the business name was born. Her theatrical training began in high school and continued through Concept East, Roosevelt University (Sociology & Acting), Columbia College (Creative Writing & TV/Radio Production), and Second City under Del Close.
